Anglo-Saxon and Viking Planning

There are two sets of plans for the Anglo-Saxons and Vikings. The first (Set A) is focusing SOLELY on the Anglo-Saxon and Viking struggle for the Kingdom of England and follows on directly from the Anglo-Saxons and Scots planning here. Set B is an older version than combines both units together and has a different focus.

Planning - Set A

Anglo-Saxon and Viking Planning - SET A
(Intended For Y5)

Please note that this planning is intended for my OWN school but can be used as a basis for your own planning, free of charge.

This planning follows on from the Anglo-Saxons and Scots planning that you can find on this website. It hones in on the different types of struggles that both the Anglo-Saxons and Vikings faced to help children understand the different aspects of history such as economic, military, religious and economic history. By posing an overarching question, the children revisit the concept of impact and identify how unstable a lot of this fractious period was. Included in the planning is the Enquiry Framework, the crib sheet for making notes and the knowledge reminders to aide retention of knowledge from the input.

Planning - Set B

Anglo-Saxon and Viking Planning - SET B
(Intended For Y5)

Please note that this planning is intended for my OWN school but can be used as a basis for your own planning, free of charge.

This planning combines the topics set out on the National Curriculum of the Anglo-Saxon settlement and conflict with the Vikings into an entire term's worth of work. It starts by looking at Britain after the Romans and the settlement of the Anglo-Saxons, fighting against the Scots and the Picts. It looks at the chronology of the Anglo-Saxons and Vikings before examining both sets of people in subsequent lessons to see what they were like as societies and their impact on Britain. It also includes lessons which look at the conflict between the Anglo-Saxons and Vikings, focusing on cause and effect. Additionally, this comes with an Enquiry Framework document showing how each lesson fits together to answer the main statement about the topic, helping to keep it coherent and purposeful. There is also a rationale for the enquiry and alternative questions/statements that could be used or tweaked.
