Ancient Egypt has a long history that covers several thousands of years. People lived in Egypt for a long time before the time we are studying, but it was separated between Upper and Lower Egypt (Upper Egypt was actually in the south and Lower Egypt was in the north). They were two different places that weren't joined as Egypt. Then, around 3100 BC, an Egyptian king called Mena (or Menes or Narmer) ruled over Upper Egypt and invaded Lower Egypt. He then ruled over both parts and brought the two together, creating Egypt as a whole.
